The Brazilian Congress of Thermal Sciences and Engineering – ENCIT is organized under the auspices of the Brazilian Society of Mechanical Sciences and Engineering – ABCM. It is held every other year since 1986 and its last editions have counted with more than 400 presentations of peer-reviewed papers. The ENCIT series of congresses has successfully served as the major forum for the interaction of professionals from the academia, industry and government, within the heat transfer, thermodynamics and fluid mechanics communities in Brazil.

This is the first issue of High Temperatures – High Pressures containing selected papers presented in the 13th edition of ENCIT held in Uberlândia, a beautiful city in the center of Brazil, during December 05-10, 2010. We hope that you find these papers interesting and useful for your research.

Please plan to attend the next ENCIT¸ which will be held in a hotel at Copacabana Beach in Rio de Janeiro, during November 18-22, 2012 (http://www.abcm.org.br/encit2012/).
