A New Gradient Based Edge Detector

In this paper a new gradient based edge detector is presented. The proposed detector has a good diagonal edge detection property. The proposed detector is compared with the existing edge detectors such as given by Sobel [1], Prewitt [2], Roberts [3] and 4-neighbour [4] operators. The proposed edge detector works better than the existing operators under certain conditions. Experimental and computational results on real images are included.
