Maintenance and Disappearance of Minority Languages:
A Cellular Automaton Model
N. Boccara

This paper presents and studies a cellular automaton model of the evolution of the language spoken either by groups of immigrants who take permanent residence in a country in which the language spoken by the natives is different from their own or by Aboriginal people whose country has been invaded by a group of individuals imposing their language and culture in order to determine which factors help maintaining the minority language.

Keywords: Cellular automata, languages, simulation.
