K.I. Haralambidou, V.A. Tsihrintis, G.K. Sylaios, and C. Akratos

Aiming at a systematic study of the processes taking place at an estuary, a detailed monitoring program of water quantity and quality parameters was designed and is undergoing in Strymon River estuary in Greece. A large number of hydrographic and water quality parameters have been directly measured. Furthermore, water samples have been collected from different points and depths for laboratory chemical analyses. The principal aim was to determine the seasonal and spatial variations of physicochemical parameters, with emphasis on nutrients. Results indicate the important role of saline wedge in the distributions of flow and water quality parameters.
