Professor Dragoş Vaida at 80 and Beyond

The scientific career of Professor Dragoş Vaida begun very early, before his graduation from the University of Bucharest in 1957. His first remarkable theorem is an extension of the Weierstrass approximation theorem within the framework of bidimensional (hyperbolic) analysis. Remarked by Professor Miron Nicolescu, this result was further extended by H.H. Gonska in 1958. Then Dragoş Vaida studied a functional equation which occurs in mechanics and was also interested in numerical analysis, for instance in some papers motivated by his subsequent interest in computer science.
