A Compact Dual-Band Meshed Antenna with Central Circular Patch and Slotted Ground for X Band, WiFi-6 and 5G Applications

This paper introduces a dual-band, compact, metal-based, meshed antenna design with a central circular patch and a slotted ground. The antenna is able to operate from 5.35 GHz to 5.58 GHz and from 9.4 GHz to 10 GHz. The antenna has a size of 21 × 26.75 mm2 and has been designed on a 1.5 mm thick polyethylene substrate with a relative permittivity of 2.25. The top layer of the antenna consists of a copper-based mesh structure with a circular copper patch in the center. On the bottom layer, two rectangular slots have been placed to improve the impedance matching and operational bandwidth of the antenna structure. The antenna has a peak gain of 7.56 dBi at 5.44 GHz and 7.21 dBi at 9.81 GHz. Moreover, the radiation efficiency remains greater than 90% for both operating frequency bands. The antenna can be effectively utilized in X-band satellite communication, WiFi-6, and 5G applications.
