Recovering from a partial delivery on the GammaPod breast radiosurgery device

The GammaPod is a breast-specific stereotactic radiation surgery device that uses a vacuum-assisted stereotactic cup for immobilization to treat early-stage breast cancer.[1-7] The GammaPod delivers its radiation as boost or as APBI [8,9] or SRS following a same-day workflow, where the patient is fitted with the breast cup, imaged, planned, and irradiated within a few hours. Each time the cup is placed the entire process is repeated since the breast fits differently in the cup each time. This naturally occurs each fraction but can also occur if pressure is lost. If pressure is lost during treatment or the treatment is unable to be finished in a given day, the situation becomes challenging. Recovering from a partial delivery is particularly challenging for the GammaPod to address due to the nature of immobilization and treatment delivery. This study introduces a novel method to create a new GammaPod plan which accounts for the partially delivered plan.
