Letter to the Editor:
On the validity of the simplified version of the Burakovsky-Preston model for the Grüneisen parameter
Pushpendra S. Sikarwar and K. S. Singh
The Burakovsky-Preston (B-P) model for the volume dependence of Grüneisen parameter has been simplified and applied recently by Anand (High Temperatures-High Pressures 54 (2025) 339) to determine thermoelastic properties and melting of binary compounds. In the present communication, we have examined the validity of the simplified model by comparing the results with those obtained from the original B-P model for twenty elemental solids. It is found that the validity of the simplified model is limited only to some specific materials for the entire range of volume compressions.
