Nano-Technology and the Nanny State

The technology underlying the field of computing has experienced meteoric growth in the last half-plus century, in both power and pervasiveness. This growth shows no signs of slowing down! As computing increasingly becomes part of the fabric of our individual and communal lives, we as a society must make decisions that will influence the directions of technology—while we still can.
