Analysing the Diode with a Shunt Resistance in the Piecewise Model

The p-n junction forms the basic building block for any semiconductor device, hence the complete understanding of the junction characteristics is very important. Although it is a widely discussed topic in electronics, there are still some gaps in our understanding of the diode. For example, finding the value and significance of the junction’s ideality factor needs to be addressed. Hence, in this article we have discussed the problems faced while extracting the ideality factor from the IV characteristics of a p-n junction device and have proposed a modification in the diode model and method for analysing it.
