ISRS Guideline of Radiosurgery Project

The ISRS society has initiated a pilot project to create guidelines for common indications for both brain and spine radiosurgery. This project is supported by the officers and all the current 2014 board members are involved to ensure success of the pilot program. A selected guideline leader, who was selected from the members of ISRS, and the sponsoring board member will form an international study group for each project to conduct the study and write a systematic review. This project is coordinated by Dr. Arjun Sahgal on behalf of the society. Ultimate recommendations will be endorsed by the board and presented at ISRS 2017. If this project is successful, then a formal committee and process will be created to continue new guidelines and update the existing guidelines. This academic activity of the society will promote the evidence- and expert-based practice for radiosurgery and SBRT.

The first cohort of 10 guideline projects includes:

  • Radiosurgery for epilepsy
  • Radiosurgery for Tremor
  • Radiosurgery for trigeminal neuralgia
  • Radiosurgery and treatment of 1-4 brain metastases
  • Radiosurgery and treatment of 5-10 brain metastases
  • Radiosurgery of Acoustic neuroma
  • Radiosurgery and treatment of cavernous sinus meningioma
  • Radiosurgery and treatment of arteriovenous malformation
  • Spine radiosurgery for de novo spinal metastases
  • Spine radiosurgery for re-treatment of spinal metastases

Joint Announcement of The International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) and the Radiosurgery Society (RSS)

The International Stereotactic Radiosurgery Society (ISRS) and The Radiosurgery Society (RSS) entered a mutual endorsement collaboration to promote and strengthen research and educational programs dedicated to advancing the knowledge of stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) and stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT). As part of the agreement, each society will hold respective alternating bi-annual scientific meetings, with each society supporting and endorsing the respective meetings. Having non-competing bi-annual meetings allows each society to be more fiscally responsible with respect to the time, resources, and financial support of our members, supporters and stakeholders as well as strengthen the academic, scientific and research programs.

The societies will remain as independent organizations and will maintain separate Bylaws, Boards of Directors and membership. The partnership will help strengthen existing relationships, maximize the ability to generate and disseminate knowledge, advance science, and continue to maintain the highest standards and ensure the safety of SRS/SBRT. We look forward to working together, meeting new colleagues, and building new programs that will benefit the membership of both societies and patients receiving SRS and SBRT.
