Theoretical Analysis of Pico Second Pulse Behavior in an Optical Fiber for Intensity Dependent Group Velocity Dispersion
Bhawna Kshirsagar and A. A. Koser

In this paper simulation and mathematical analysis is done for ultra short optical pulses which are generally used in signal transmission. A mathematical theory is provided to show the changes that occurs in Gaussian input pulse due to intensity dependent dispersive parameter. Group velocity dispersion (GVD) parameter β2 is one of the limiting factors in optical fiber communication. We have studied the effect of intensity on pulse propagation by considering β2 as intensity dependent parameter. This is done by incorporating the optical Kerr effect that is considering intensity dependent refractive index in β2. Polarization induced in the medium due to incident Gaussian pulse is obtained by using the Bloch equation. The analysis of induced polarization is done by using Nonlinear Schrodinger equation. The results illustrate that it is possible to control the shape of the pico second pulse by changing the intensity of input pulse. The reason for the change in the pulse behavior is due to the change in GVD parameter. This change in GVD parameter results due to change in the refractive index by considering it as intensity dependent. The aim of this study is to introduce a new theoretical environment that provides the possibility of new optical spectra measurement.
