The Effectiveness of Silver Nanoparticles in the Verification of Sr(OH)2

Around us there are many sources of nuclear waste. Nuclear waste is a main source of pollution that threats our environment and health. For this reason, we must found an appropriate management to storage and disposal from the nuclear wastes over long time period. Therefore, in this research we aiming to verification nuclear waste (strontium hydroxide) by sliver nanoparticles. To prepare sliver nanoparticles AgNPs the laser Nd-YAG was used with wavelength 1064 nm, the power of 700 mJ and 100 beats. After that Sr(OH)2 powder was adding to AgNPs-colloidal with a calculated ratio to get AgNPs-Sr (OH)2 , the new mixing was putting in Centrifuge for 3 min. in order to obtain a homogeneous mixing. The AgNPs-Sr (OH)2, sucks Carbon dioxide from the air to form AgNPs-SrCO3. For drying the new solution, 3 drops from the AgNPs-SrCO3 have been put on a glass slide. In order compare damage that caused by radiation on the structure of sliver nanoparticles, samples was irradiated by beta radiation using radio isotopes (90Sr / 90Y) for a different time periods. The characteristics of the structure have been measured with the use of the X-ray diffraction XRD whereas shape and grain size particles have been measured through the use of the scanning electron microscopy SEM. Results have been shown for all of the samples prior to and post the β irradiation, the higher peaks X-ray diffraction pattern appeared at angles of 25.39° this is an indication of presence of crystalline phase which, when comparing the site of the highest peak to reference pattern the result is strontium carbonite. The SEM micrograph (for all samples) showed that the structure of silver nanoparticles structure have no destruction as a result to radiation exposure. Also, the average waste diameter almost not change ≅ 22nm.
