Design Strategies for Constructing Technology-Rich Learning Environments in Studying History

In tandem with rapid developments in Internet technologies, web-based multimedia learning solutions have come to be pervasively used to free learning processes from their traditional rigidity and make learning a pedagogically more fruitful experience. However, use of technology alone doesn’t guarantee positive learning gains. A sound instructional design framework needs to underpin technology mediated pedagogy in enhancing the quality of the learning interactions. In this article, the application of some of these key e-learning instructional design principles is explored, using the example of an open-source, web-based knowledge system, Eternal Egypt. Eternal Egypt is a dynamic website that serves as a rich information storehouse in familiarizing viewers with the historical profile of medieval Egypt.
