This special issue is dedicated to selected works which have been presented in a preliminary version in the 7th International Conference on Adhoc, Mobile and Wireless Networks (AdHoc-NOW 2008). This conference was held at INRIA Sophia Antipolis – Méditerranée, on the French Riviera in September 2008. The purpose of this conference is to provide a forum for researchers from academia/industry and practitioners to meet and exchange ideas regarding recent developments in the areas of ad-hoc wireless networks. The conference received 110 submissions from thirty-three different countries like Australia, Canada, China, Denmark, France, South Africa, South Korea or USA. Based on the reviews made by TPC members, thirty-nine papers have been selected and presented during the conference. The conference versions of these papers have been published in proceedings of the conference (Lecture Notes in Computer Science, volume 5198, 2008, Springer Berlin/Heidelberg). Consecutively to the conference, the seven best papers have been selected by the two program co-chairs and the general chair for publication for this special issue. They represent the best contributions in term of results and presentation.
