A Tensorial Formulation for Treating Electric Quadrupole Emission in Molecular Oxygen
M.A. Grado-Caffaro and M. Grado-Caffaro

Within the framework of photon emission from electronic transitions, electric quadrupole emission in diatomic molecules is a relevant issue. In this respect, we present a matrix formalism to treat electric quadrupole emission in oxygen. As a matter of fact, within the above context, we derive an analytical approach by expressing the quantized rotational energy of an involved oxygen molecule as a dyadic-tensor product of two relevant matrices. Furthermore, in connection with the formalism in question, we discuss aspects associated with the matrix elements relative to the emission intensity and line strength.
