Nonlinear Optics Quantum Optics is pleased to announce NLOQO Critical Reviews, which are articles that bring researchers up to speed in hot new areas of nonlinear optics and quantum optics. These include basic science that underpins NLOQO, demonstration of new phenomena, development of novel optical materials and their applications, material and device characterization, demonstration devices, and applications.

Articles will be by invitation and typically cover a novel research area that has high impact on the field and has broad appeal. Authors interested in writing a Review should prepare a short proposal that includes the names of the authors, an outline of the topics that will be presented, a short literature review that shows the most recent advances, and evidence that the area is highly active.

Manuscripts are expected to be of the highest quality, and include (1) a historical introduction, (2) the development of the formalism required for an experienced researcher to understand the research that is reviewed, and (3) a conclusion that discusses challenges and new directions/opportunities of futures research. Each author should provide a bio that is less than 100 words and a color portrait in high resolution, which will be included with the bios at the end of the article.

In addition to high visibility, other benefits to each of the authors include five bound copies of their article with color figures, announcement of their upcoming article in the previous issue – which will include the abstract, and free online access to readers.

Since a NLOQO Review is intended to fill a single issue, the authors should download the templates (for LaTeX; for Word) so that the length of the formatted article can be estimated. The typical issue is about 80 journal pages. Shorter NLOQO Reviews will be accepted, but other articles will appear in the same issue, making a single-issue review not possible.

Inquiries and proposals should be emailed to NLOQO Editor-in-Chief Prof. Mark G. Kuzyk at editor@fonlo.org and copied to kuz@wsu.edu.
