Fuzzy Modeling of the Relationship Between Body Fits and Design Styles in a Garment

The fashion industry is experiencing a notable trend toward mass customization, driven by an increasing demand for personalized garments that prioritize comfort and fit. Proper body fit is crucial for ensuring both functionality and comfort. However, garment fitting has proven to be a challenge, especially among diverse populations, as traditional fitting models often need to be revised to encompass the multitude of different body shapes. This paper addresses the problem of mass-customization design for swimwear tailored to Mexican women. It focuses on the fit of the upper body and its relation to basic design styles. Utilizing fuzzy logic, the study proposes a novel approach to modeling the connection between body fits and design styles in women’s swimsuits based on sensory evaluation techniques and expert insights. The originality of this work lies in its integration of fuzzy logic with sensory data and 3D body simulation. It provides a practical framework for designers to create fashionable garments that fit well. The proposed model captures the variability in body shapes and provides a systematic way to personalize swimwear design according to personal styling choices. This research contributes to the development of personalized fashion design by providing a reliable, scalable, and efficient solution for fitting garments to diverse body types, particularly in the context of women’s swimwear design for the Mexican market.
