Multiple Intelligence Based Course Recommender System by Using Fuzzy MCDM Approach

Course selection is a critical decision that requires careful consideration and planning. Systems such as recommender systems and decision support systems have been developed to guide students in their course selection process, but the development of a course recommendation system for educational institutions is a challenging area. In this study, a course recommendation system was developed by using fuzzy multi-criteria decision making (MCDM) approaches, Fuzzy Analytical Hierarchy Process (FAHP), and Fuzzy Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution (FTOPSIS), to select elective courses according to students’ 8 intelligence types. 23 elective courses were sequenced by considering the individual intelligence types and choices of each student. Using statistical analysis, the proposed system’s impact on the learning process was examined in a real-life problem. The results showed that success of the proposed system is 87.03% so the FAHP method can be used for course selection problem effectively.
