The Grote Effect

It is thoroughly appropriate to record the importance of Jim Grote’s SPIE roles over many years, and indeed it is in these connections that this author has had the pleasure of getting to know and work with him since the millennium. It is hard to exaggerate the level of involvement Jim has had in SPIE circles – nor his impact. He is of course well known both within and outside this society for his work at the USAF Research Laboratory, at the Wright-Patterson base in Dayton, Ohio, where he has became an internationally acknowledged leader in bionanomaterials and DNA-based optics, amongst much else.
